What is Emotional Freedom Technique?

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) also known as Tapping is an alternative healing treatment founded by Gary Craig around 1995. EFT evolved from another type of alternative therapy called Though Field Therapy (TFT) which was used to treat patients with phobia.

The basic premise of Tapping is that all negative emotions are caused by disturbances in our body’s energy system. EFT can help you overcome negative emotions and thought patterns and replace them with positive thoughts, calm and relaxed feelings by tapping into the body’s energy pathways called energy meridians. EFT is also often referred to as acupuncture without needles.

EFT is safe, easy to learn and does not need any equipment to perform. It is a great tool to calm or soothe yourself emotionally, mentally and physically and can be performed almost anywhere.

How Does EFT Work?

EFT works by clearing the disturbances in your energy meridians. Before the therapy, you should establish a goal on what you want to achieve, or what emotions you want to clear. The goal should be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely to achieve better results. You must focus your attention and energy on how you will feel when you finally achieve your goal, and not on how hard it is to achieve them. By focusing on the end result, you will feel lighter, happier and more confident.

There are 10 points to tap to clear away energy disturbances and these points addresses all 14 meridians. The 10 points are the top of the head, eyebrow, side of the eye, under the eye, under the nose, chin, collarbone, underarm, the inside wrist, and the karate chop point. The tapping should be done in solid taps but not hard enough to hurt or bruise yourself. Each point can be tapped 4 to 6 times, though you can tap more if you prefer. While tapping, the practitioner will guide you to repeat affirmation statements focusing on the issues.

What are Some Benefits of EFT?

EFT can be effectively used to help release anxiety, stress, trauma, depression, phobia, insomnia, addiction, eating disorders and almost everything one can mention. The most important benefit of EFT is relaxation, physically, emotionally and mentally. When you are relaxed, you can think better, thus, you can also perform better.
